Delhi-NCR Weather Alert IMD Issues Orange Warning

Delhi-NCR witnessed heavy rainfall on Tuesday afternoon after a brief pause, leading to waterlogging and traffic chaos across several areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad, warning of moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms.

IMD Rain Alert for Delhi

The IMD said an orange alert is in place for North Delhi, New Delhi, Central Delhi, South Delhi, South East Delhi, North East Delhi, East Delhi and Shahdara. These areas may see intense showers.
Meanwhile, West Delhi, North West Delhi and South West Delhi are under a yellow alert with light to moderate rainfall expected.

Neighbouring Gurugram and Noida are also on orange alert, while Ghaziabad and Faridabad remain on high rainfall warning.

Yamuna Crosses Danger Mark

The Yamuna River has crossed the danger mark of 205.33 meters after continuous rainfall. As a result, the Old Iron Bridge (Loha Pul) has been closed for public movement until further notice.

Traffic Police Advisory

The Delhi Traffic Police has announced diversions to manage movement in waterlogged areas.

  • Traffic from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Old Delhi Railway Station and Red Fort will be diverted via Hanuman Setu and Geeta Colony Road.
  • Vehicles from Rajghat and Shanti Van will be rerouted via Shanti Van Chowk and Raja Ram Kohli Marg.
  • Motorists from Shahdara, Seelampur and Shastri Park will be diverted through Pushta Road and Ring Road.
  • From east Delhi areas such as Akshardham, Mayur Vihar and Pandav Nagar, vehicles will be diverted via Geeta Colony Flyover to Ring Road.
